Carson Wentz reacts to massive four-year contract extension

Carson Wentz has a new deal with the Philadelphia Eagles

The Philadelphia Eagles have agreed to terms on a four-year deal with quarterback Carson Wentz through 2024. According to Mike Garafolo of NFL.com, Wentz signed now because he wanted the security of a new deal while freeing up more cash and cap to spend elsewhere, thus allowing the Eagles to stay at the top of the heap.

The extension is for $128 million and includes $107.9 million guaranteed, including $66 million due at signing, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Wentz responded to the deal on social media with a message about playing for "the most passionate fans in the world". Wentz went down with a back injury in December and did not play the rest of the 2018 season.

The second overall pick in the 2016 National Football League draft, out of North Dakota State, Wentz has been dynamic when on the field, but his short National Football League career has been marred by injuries.

He earned Pro Bowl honors after the 2017 season, but sat through the team's Super Bowl run after suffering ACL and LCL tears in Week 13.

Now the city is talking about the Eagles star as the teams' unquestioned leader and face of the franchise for years to come. The Eagles remained confident in Wentz as their quarterback of the future, allowing Foles to leave for the Jacksonville Jaguars in free agency during the offseason.

In comparison, many believe that Wentz is the better quarterback than Goff when healthy, but this doesn't necessarily mean the Rams quarterback will be open to taking a contract of lesser value since Thursday's news provides him with leverage when time comes for negotiation.
