US Works To Ensure Alternative Oil Supply To India

Hossein Fereidoun brother and top aide of moderate Iranian President Hassan Rouhani sits in a conference in Tehran Iran. Iran’s semi-official ISNA news agency says President Hassan Rouhani’s brot

With frustration mounting in Iran over the lack of dividends from the nuclear accord, the semi-official ISNA news agency said that President Hassan Rouhani would announce "retaliatory measures" on Wednesday to mark the anniversary of the U.S. pullout.

Similarly, the semi-official Iranian Students' News Agency (ISNA) reported that Iran on Wednesday will announce "reciprocal actions" to the United States withdrawal from the nuclear deal, quoting "knowledgeable sources".

But under the Trump administration, the US exited the deal and revived sanctions, including an embargo against Iran's economically important oil sector.

"The Islamic Republic of Iran in reaction to the exit of America from the nuclear deal and the bad promises of European countries in carrying out their obligations will restart a part of the nuclear activities which were stopped under the framework of the nuclear deal", the source said, according to IRIB.

European "officials, who have just made unfulfilled vows during a year ago have been unofficially informed of the decision", the report continued.

Trump says the Iran nuclear deal was "fatally flawed" because it did not address Iran's ballistic-missile program or Tehran's alleged state sponsorship of terrorism.

"Iran has stated that it will treat such a reintroduction or reimposition of the sanctions ... or such an imposition of new nuclear-related sanctions, as grounds to cease performing its commitments under this JCPOA in whole or in part".

Iranian parliamentary speaker Ali Larijani on May 4 said Iran will continue to enrich uranium in accordance with the accord regardless of USA moves to put a stop to it. He added, "We will continue enrichment whether you want to purchase it or not", referring to the arrangement in which Iran exports low-enriched uranium in exchange for natural uranium.

Mentioning the Europe's financial mechanism for trade with Iran (known as INSTEX), the deputy minister said, "In Europe, everyone supports the nuclear deal, calling for its continuation".

United Nations nuclear inspectors have repeatedly verified Iranian compliance with the accord.

The other powers that are still involved in the pact - Britain, France, Germany, Russia, China and the European Union - have been trying to keep Tehran from abandoning the pact in spite the renewed US punitive measures.

Ironically, the evidence-free claim comes as the USA steered a carrier strike group into the Persian Gulf to "send a message" to Tehran - not exactly an olive branch gesture in itself. "So we have to increase our hard currency income and cut our currency expenditures", Rouhani said.

Over the past ten years, Tehran is reported to have sold its oil at prices far below global benchmarks using little-known private companies to facilitate quietly executed deals, according to Reuters.

"If these actions take place, if they do by some third-party proxy, a militia group, Hezbollah, we will hold the Iranian leadership directly accountable for that".
