'Harry and Meghan creating a fortress to protect their baby'

George Clooney

Speaking on Yahoo UK's The Royal Box, author Katie Nicholl says the royal couple "knew they could create a fortress there".

True to character, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have chosen a non-traditional and somewhat unusual name for their first child.

Meghan and Harry welcomed Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor on Monday and introduced him to the world at a photocall in Windsor Castle, on Wednesday. "To my astonishment, he said, "I'm called Archie"," she recalled.

Meghan Markle was born Rachel Meghan Markle, but has gone by the name Meghan for years.

Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher Archie Bradley certainly feels closer to the royal family now that the name has been announced.

Harry said they were looking forward to spending some "precious times with him as he slowly, slowly starts to grow up". The name Harrison is a boy's name of English, Aboriginal origin which means, well, 'son of Harry'.

Interestingly, the Mountbatten family is a branch of the German house of Battenberg.

LISTEN: Tune in to 9Honey's royal podcast The Windsors for a bonus episode on baby Archie's arrival. If that weren't exciting enough, the famous couple also revealed the name of their little nugget, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor.

Meghan's relationship with her dad has been strained for years, however his regular interviews since she joined the royal family have done nothing to mend their relationship. Their youngest child, son Prince Louis also has a royal name.

When it comes to picking names, many royals have paid tribute to their lineage.

The two princes have been widely praised for speaking out about their own struggles with mental health struggles in the wake of the death of their mother Princess Diana in a 1997 auto crash and have made the issue one of their main charitable causes. Many had expected a more traditional name, but Archie is actually quite a popular name in Britain, where it was among the top 25 most common boys' names in 2017. And Archie is seventh in line. That title though is not a royal designation, but rather a British custom.

According to ITV News Royal Editor Chris Ship, Archie's name should indeed change if Charles becomes King.
