Comedian Freddie Starr is found dead at his Spanish home, aged 76

Freddie's time on I'm A Celeb... was cut short

Comedian Freddie Starr has died at the age of 76. "I hope his legacy is not smalled down".

Bobby Davro appeared on Good Morning Britain this morning where he opened up about his last phone call with Freddie Starr. I'm so sad we have lost one of our greatest comedy talents.

Former Allo Allo actress Vicki Michelle said he had been a "great comedian", while Apprentice boss Lord Sugar hailed him as a "very amusing man".

A neighbour, who asked not to be named, told the newspaper: "His carer found him dead in his chair at around 3.30pm. R.i.p to our greatest comedian of all time", a brief statement on Facebook read.

It claimed that the comedian had been staying at the Cheshire home of his friend Vince McCaffrey after a show in Manchester, and demanded that McCaffrey's girlfriend Lea La Salle made him a sandwich.

During the 1990s, he starred in several TV shows including Freddie Starr (1993-94), The Freddie Starr Show (1996-98) and An Audience with Freddie Starr in 1996.

"I just have to say thank you all from the bottom of my heart for all the kind comments and messages, it really does mean a lot so thank you to each and everyone of you thanks so much".

He became known for The Sun's 1986 front page "Freddie Starr ate my hamster" - a false story inserted by his publicist, Max Clifford.

A carer dialled 999 after discovering the former comedian on the floor of his £180,000 townhouse in Mijas near Fuengirola, on the Costa Del Sol.

He was accused of groping a 15-year-old girl while she attended a Jimmy Savile TV show and spent 18 months on bail before he was told he would not be prosecuted.

He appeared in I'm a Celeb in 2011, but had to bow out early due to his deteriorating health.

It came after Starr suffered an allergic reaction in the Australian jungle and had to be taken to hospital after eating a meal of fermented egg and a camel toe.

A High Court judge ruled Miss Ward was telling the truth and dismissed the case in July 2015.
