Ketchikan Alaska. The passenger was from one of two float planes reported down in George Inlet early Monday afternoon and

Two seaplanes carrying sightseers have collided in south-eastern Alaska, with at least four people dead and two missing, the US Coast Guard says.

"All of us at Princess Cruises are deeply saddened by this tragic news and we are extending our full support to the investigating authorities as well as the travelling companions of the guests involved", company spokesman Brian O'Connor said in a statement.

The cruise was on a seven-day Voyage of the Glaciers that departed Vancouver on May 11 and is scheduled to arrive in Anchorage on Saturday, May 18.

The two planes collided in mid-air Monday, and the Coast Guard raised the death toll to six people on Tuesday after finding the bodies of two people who had been missing.

Emergency response crews transport an injured passenger to an ambulance at the George Inlet Lodge docks, Monday, May 13, 2019, in Ketchikan, Alaska.

"The flight was returning from a Misty Fjords tour carrying 10 guests from Royal Princess and a pilot".

The 10 injured initially were taken to Peace Health's Ketchikan Medical Center with four flown to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle with one person remaining in serious condition and three in satisfactory condition.

Helicopters and boats were deployed by the US Coast Guard for the search and rescue operation.

She said the ship was not leaving as scheduled and there weren't any details as to how the accident will affect the rest of the trip.

"We are devastated by today's incident and our hearts go out to our passengers and their families", a statement from flight operators Taquan Air said.

On the other de Havilland DHC-3 Otter float plane, there was a total of eleven people including the pilot and it was an excursion booked through the cruise line.

"At this time, we are in the midst of an active crisis response, and our focus is on assisting these passengers, the pilot, our staff, their families and loved ones and first responders", Taquan said in a statement.

The U.S. Coast Guard stated the nationalities of the deceased are 14 Americans, one Canadian and one Australian.

Randy Jason Sullivan, 46, was piloting the de Havilland DHC-2 Beaver owned by Mountain Air Service that collided with a larger de Havilland Otter DHC-3 on Monday afternoon in Ketchikan, Alaska. "It has also been confirmed there are five (5) fatalities from the independent air tour - four (4) Royal Princess guests and one (1) pilot".

Weather conditions were reportedly overcast with 9 miles per hour winds.

National Transportation Safety Board member Jennifer Homendy said both aircraft were inbound to Ketchikan when the collision occurred at about 12.21pm.

The cause of the crash in relatively good weather, high overcast skies with light southeast winds was not known.
