Actress Alyssa Milano Suggests Sex Strike To Halt Anti-Abortion Law

James Woods shouldnt leave Twitter

Her tweet came days after Georgia became the fourth state in the us this year to ban abortions after a fetal heartbeat is detected - about six weeks into a pregnancy and before many women know they're pregnant. The latter forbids women from ending a pregnancy as soon as doctors can track a heartbeat in the fetus.

Furthermore, the actress stated via a shared post on Instagram: "Our reproductive rights are being erased".

Under current law, women in Georgia can seek an abortion during the first 20 weeks of pregnancy, but House Bill 481 would only allow women to get abortions before a fetal heartbeat is detected, which is at about six weeks gestation.

And while some in Hollywood are calling on a boycott of Georgia, Milano is calling for a boycott of sex.

'JOIN ME by not having sex until we get bodily autonomy back.

Turnabout is certainly fair play here, and Milano has every right to call for something like this in light of Georgia's restrictive anti-abortion laws and the increasingly hostile pro-life community's response to women's reproductive rights and the availability of safe, healthy options for abortion. I'm calling for a #SexStrike.

"Governor Kemp's "Fetal Heartbeat" Abortion Law is an unconstitutional effort to further restrict women and their health providers from making private medical decisions on their terms". Like other abortion bans passed in recent months, the law faces legal challenges and could end up before the Supreme Court, where conservatives now hold a majority.

Critics of such legislation have argued that many women don't discover that they're pregnant in six weeks.

"I sent a tweet last night I haven't really thought much past that this morning".

The other states that have similar laws are Ohio, Mississippi, Kentucky, Iowa and North Dakota. Georgia is the fourth state to enact this kind of law this year, according to the New York Times.

Milano has also threatened to quit her Netflix show Insatiable if its production remains in Georgia.
