The Brexit Party: UKIP but without the far-right, claims Nigel Farage

Emmanuel Macron talks to the media ahead of a European Council meeting on Brexit

Britain was supposed to have left the European Union before the European elections, which take place in late May in every EU nation.

Danish Prime Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen, who leads a three-party minority coalition that is propped up by a fourth, came out of the meeting telling reporters that the delay to October was "to give a chance to the new thing that has happened in Britain - where for the first time since World War Two they are having consultations across the political divide".

"The prime minister stuck rigidly to a flawed plan and now the clock has run down, leaving Britain in limbo", Mr Corbyn said.

No. 10 is still hoping they can get a deal through parliament in time to avoid the need for Britain to vote in elections to the European Parliament on 23 May.

Nigel Farage -a staunch ally of President Trump- addressed supporters Friday and vowed to kick-off a new campaign ahead of next month's European Parliament election. Winning candidates from Britain will only get to serve as long as their country remains in the EU.

Nigel Farage formally launched his Brexit party on Friday (12 April) promising to save Brexit for a British public that had been "betrayed" by its political leaders.

And there was little solace for Mrs May on her own side of the House of Commons, as pro-Brexit lawmakers from her Conservative Party accused her of capitulating to Brussels.

He has been critical of the way British Prime Minister Theresa May has handled Brexit negotiations with Brussels.

Farage held the first campaign rally of his newly formed Brexit Party, calling delays to Britain's departure from the European Union "a willful betrayal of the greatest democratic exercise in the history of this nation".

For the moment, yes, said Mr Farage, because it is fighting the European elections and there's only one issue on the agenda.

Farage was instrumental in helping the Leave side win Britain's 2016 referendum on European Union membership, but stepped down as UKIP leader after the referendum.

UKIP, the party which Farage has dominated for the past twenty years, has suffered a series of defections since Gerard Batten assumed the party leadership and moved UKIP towards an overtly Islamophobic position alongside anti-Muslim campaigner Tommy Robinson.

Farage said he did not want to be a part of a party that promoted "violence, criminal records and thuggery".

"Our two-party system simply can not cope with Brexit".

She said: "We need to resolve this".

However, many Labour MPs and members are calling for leader Jeremy Corbyn to ask for a second referendum as one of the party's demands.

Unable to convince enough of her Conservatives and their Northern Irish allies to back the deal, May last week made a decision to try finding a compromise with the main opposition Labour Party.

"We're giving them a very long time to take a decision", he said.

It has been particularly unfortunate for the United Kingdom that given the fundamental issues that were apparent from the start of the Brexit process that Article 50 of the Treaty on European Union was triggered in March 2017 well before the type of Brexit they wanted to pursue had been agreed upon.
