Significant severe weather threat for Louisiana, Mississippi on Saturday

Severe Threat Index

The main threats from any severe thunderstorms will be damaging wind gusts and tornadoes. By the evening, a strong line of storms is likely to develop along the PA-OH border and track eastward.

Forecaster Adam Baker in Georgia says a storm is expected to bring gusty winds and hail and potentially strong tornadoes on Saturday to Louisiana, Mississippi and some parts of western Alabama.

The Storm Prediction Center has listed Tarrant County as being under a marginal risk for severe weather while Dallas and Collin counties are under slight risk.

There is a chance of an isolated storm Saturday afternoon, but mainly along and south of the Palmer Divide. A few more spotty showers are possible through this evening.

Thunderstorms with penny-sized hail and lighting hit northwest Illinois Thursday morning, moving northeast. We need to be prepared for this event as the potential for nasty storms is much higher than usual. Ahead of the front we'll see scattered showers and thunderstorms Sunday afternoon.

Tomorrow night: Mostly clear. The chance of rain is 40%. It will be a bit cool with highs in the low to mid 60s. More specifically, we are targeting 5p Saturday to 1a Sunday for the worst weather. It'll be pretty nice with highs around 70 Monday and near 80 Tuesday. In nearby Cherokee County, winds of up to 60 mph damaged two homes in the town of Alto, about 140 miles (225 kilometers) north of Houston.

The tornado threat will be lower by then, but damaging winds could still present hazardous conditions.
