Rahul, Karthik make the cut, Rayudu, Pant left out

BCCI today announced the 15-man squad for World Cup 2019. Under pressure, we have seen Dinesh Karthik finishing matches.

All five selectors will be present during the meeting, which will also be attended by coach Ravi Shastri, captain Virat Kohli and interim secretary of BCCI Amitabh Chaudhary. He will probably be the number four batsman, which had been another gap in the 15-member squad.

The selectors have also opted to go with all-rounders Vijay Shankar and Hardik Pandya alongside Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Mohammed Shami in a pace-heavy bowling attack.

"It is definitely a case which we have debated at length".

That the World Cup 2019 will again be played in England might have prompted the selectors to think about Karthik, who has a lot of experience in playing in UK.

"That is the only reason why we went ahead with DK otherwise Pant was nearly there", he added. "We all were in unison that either pant or DK will come in only when Mahi is injured", MSKPrasad said after the squad was announced.

Amidst the speculations for the No. 4 spot, Ambati Rayudu - who is not being in good form - is missing out of the team.

"We have been planning soon after the completion of the Champions Trophy (2017) for this".

'We did give a few more chances to Ambati Rayudu but Vijay Shankar gives three dimensions.

Virak Kohli will captain the side, and the 15-man squad also includes ex-skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul. Dinesh Karthik was picked in the team which seems to be a correct call at the moment.

The bowlers will be assisted by the wrist-spinning duo of Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal while Kedar Jadhav is expected to roll his arm if required.

"And in the second part of the tournament, when the wickets will be more dry, we felt Jadeja will be handy".

England, ranked No.1 on the MRF Tyres ICC ODI Team rankings, have been widely touted as favourites for the mega-event.
