Labour Party chief says UK should oppose Assange extradition

Russian diplomat slams Assange’s prosecution as US political elite’s revenge

In her scathing attack on Twitter, Christine Assange also said her son, the WikiLeaks founder who was dragged from the Ecuadorian embassy Thursday and arrested on United Kingdom and USA warrants, "has been deprived of exercise and medical care".

Assange allegedly helped former U.S. Army intelligence analyst Chelsea Manning hack into the U.S. Defense Department in 2010.

Christine Assange launched an attack against Moreno on social media in the wake of her son being dragged out of the Ecuadorian Embassy in London, where he had spent the last seven years, after the Ecuadorian president withdrew asylum. The charge was announced after Assange was taken into custody.

Now that Assange has been remanded in custody in the United Kingdom, the U.S. have brought federal conspiracy charges against him, putting the United Kingdom in the position of having to honour their extradition treaty. If found guilty, Assange faces a maximum five years in prison. It is also possible that Assange, 47, will face an extradition request from Sweden if prosecutors there decide to pursue allegations of rape and sexual misconduct against him.

It doesn't seem all that long ago that he entered the Ecuadorian embassy but to think in the time since, the average tenant in Kensington would have paid £150,000 in rent for just a single room, which is actually quite mind-boggling. The allegations by two women have not been tested in court and Assange has denied wrongdoing.

"Mr. Assange's behavior is that of a narcissist who can not get beyond his own selfish interests", Snow said.

Assange's next court appearance was set for May 2 via prison video-link in relation to the extradition case, a process that involves several layers of appeal that could take years.

But she said Assange should face the criminal justice system if the Swedish government charged him.

The President said he was concerned Assange was still working with WikiLeads and was "involved in interfering in worldwide affairs of other states".
