India sweeps Wisden Cricketers' Almanack as Kohli, Mandhana win top prizes

Virat Kohli

"Virat Kohli added another distinction to his bulging list of accomplishments by being named "Leading Cricketer in the World" for the third consecutive year by the sport's most revered and authoritative publication - Wisden Cricketers" Almanack.

Sam Curran's meteoric rise has continued after the 20-year-old all-rounder was named among Wisden's five Cricketers of the Year, the youngest Englishman to do so in a century.

Afghanistan's ace spinner Rashid Khan was named Leading T20 Cricketer of the Year after he took 21 wickets in the IPL apart from another 22 wickets for his country at an average of 8.68.

Mandhana, the Leading Women's Cricketer of the Year, scored 669 and 662 runs in ODIs and T20Is during the course of 2018.

Curran was named man-of-the-series in Tests against India, earned his ODI debut and...

England's Jos Buttler made his mark in Test cricket with a total of 760 runs and a maiden Test ton against India.

"Despite finishing on the losing side, India captain Virat Kohli shone with the bat, laying to rest his struggles in England in 2014", Wisden editor Lawrence Booth said on Wednesday.

Kohli, however, was the sport's dominant figure in 2018, making 2735 worldwide runs at 68.37 across all formats, more than 700 more than his nearest challenger, England's Joe Root.

"And 2018 was her most prolific year yet".

In the year he slammed 11 centuries, of which seven came during the tour of South Africa, England and Australia.

Kohli was also named as the leading men´s player in the world for a third straight year.

Wisden, often described as the "bible of Cricket" has been listing out Cricketers of the Year since 1889.
