You’re not alone: Facebook & Instagram are experiencing issues

New York. Facebook says it is aware of outages on its platforms including Facebook Messenger and Instagram and is working to resolve the issue. (AP Pho

"We're aware that some people are now having trouble accessing the Facebook family of apps", a Facebook spokesperson said in an email.

Facebook has since responded to the issues on Twitter (ironic), saying that they are working to resolve the problems at hand.

It appears Oculus is also affected as some users have reported (via Verge) the feature for authenticating logins through Facebook is down. But Facebook's issues began just before 8 this morning.

Buenos Aires-based designer Rebecca Brooker told the BBC the interruption was having a significant impact on their work.

"I'm trying to communicate with my team in NY".

A member of the Facebook team posted on the developer platform status page stating, "We are now experiencing issues that may cause some API requests to take longer or fail unexpectedly".

Many users said they could not send messages and after re-installing the app they could not log in.

On Twitter, people expressed their frustration.

Many shared jokes about the social media outage leading to the collapse of society, as "nobody remembers how to reach loved ones or eat food without posting updates". Additionally, Instagram wouldn't redirect to other people's pages.

Social media users in the UAE and other parts of the world were left frustrated on Wednesday evening when Facebook and Instagram went down.

While the social networks homepage remains online, many users report difficulties in logging into the service or using the app.
