Windows 10 to Automatically Remove Updates That Cause Problems

March 2019 brings critical fixes to all Windows versions

As a matter of fact, Microsoft acknowledged last week some gaming performance issues with the latest patch for Windows 10 version 1809, recommending users to uninstall it. If this happens to you, you'll be greeted by the message: "We removed some recently installed updates to recover your device from a startup failure". The first is to try and regain trust after the October 2019 Update (1809) had to be recalled following a raft of compatibility and file integrity issues.

If you run Windows 10 and love to install the latest updates as soon as they become available, you must be aware of the series of issues being caused by buggy Windows 10 updates.

The company will remove Windows Updates on its own if it detects that your computer recently recovered from a startup failure.

In the ongoing saga of trying to mitigate the potential problems caused by speculative execution exploits like Spectre and Meltdown (and the fixes to those fixes) Microsoft has a new Windows patch called KB4482887.

The same update also introduces a new light theme for desktop users, as well as lots of refinements here and there to refine the experience overall.

Users can manually reinstall any updates that were uninstalled, but they will be removed again if Windows 10 still doesn't start. "After 30 days, Windows will again try to install the updates". Specifically, if a Windows Update is preventing your PC from booting, then it may automatically roll back the faulty update. This will give Microsoft and our partners the opportunity to investigate the failure and fix any issues. A manual download option, however, is also likely to be offered to those who don't want to wait to receive the update automatically. This is only done when all other automatic recovery attempts have been unsuccessful.
