Sega pulls 'Judgement' sales following voice actor's cocaine arrest

On March 12, officials from the Japanese Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare's Narcotics Control Department searched the home of veteran actor and musician Pierre Taki.

Masanori Taki, better known by his stage name Pierre Taki, was taken into custody Tuesday evening on suspicion of cocaine use. There is no word on whether Taki's arrest will affect the western release. Taki is being held in Koto Ward and may face a prison sentence of up to seven years for possession or use of cocaine. Taki not only added his voice and likeness to Judgment, but also did motion capture work for his character, Kyohei Hamura.

In a press release, Sega said, "Sega has received the arrest reports and are now confirming the facts, but for the time being, we will voluntarily refrain from shipments and digital sales of [Judgment], as well as from things like posting the product's homepage". We apologize for any inconvenience caused to our customers and related parties.

As a response, Sega has issued a statement announcing that it has chose to suspend all Judge Eyes shipments and sales while it's "confirming the facts". Publisher SEGA has stated that the Western release, currently due to hit U.S. and Europe in June, is now "under consideration".

In a odd and surprising round of news, Sega has announced that it has stopped physical shipments and digital sales of the Yakuza spinoff Judgment in Japan following the arrest of actor Pierre Taki.

But it is his role in a video game that is attracting the most controversy. The publisher has even gone as far as to delete its own tweets referencing the game.

Besides serving as the voice and model for Judgment's yakuza Kyohei Hamura, Taki also played the voice of Olaf in the Japanese version of Frozen as well as the newly released Kingdom Hearts III.

However, while Sega itself isn't going to sell you copy of the game, physical copies of Judge Eyes that have already shipped are still available, though their stocks are likely to start dwindling rapidly.
