Prosecutor on Jussie Smollett's Case Still Thinks He's Guilty

"To say he was exonerated by us or anyone else is not true".

All of the charges were dropped against Smollett Tuesday morning.

In a statement, a spokeswoman for the Cook County prosecutors' office said the dismissal came "after reviewing all of the facts and circumstances of the case".

"It started by them having a relationship with Mr. Smollett".

The actor told authorities in his initial report that two masked men shouted racial and anti-gay slurs, poured bleach on him, beat him and looped a rope around his neck. They are especially offended Jussie allegedly faked the attack to squeeze more money out of producers.

He went on: "There are few worse things in the world than when people are victims of genuine racist crime and homophobic attacks, but for a high profile famous actor, who happens to be black and gay, to stage a race hate homophobic attack on himself, which he did, send himself race hate letters, all to raise his profile and get more money for his salary on his TV show is repellent".

Prosecutors offered little explanation when dropping the case, a move that infuriated Chicago's mayor and police chief. The brothers' attorney, Gloria Schmidt, said then that the brothers did not testify as part of any plea deal with prosecutors and that they were not granted any immunity from prosecution.

But yesterday, charges against Jussie in relation to the alleged staging of the attack were dropped.

When then asked by a reporter if she had anything to say to the Chicago Police Department, Holmes responded: "We have nothing to say to the police department except to investigate charges and not try their cases in the press but to allow matters to be investigated".

The case has sparked political discord in one of America's largest cities. They also claimed the "Empire" actor "refused" to give the cops his phone, but he did give his phone records. "A grand jury could not have been clearer". "And he used that empathy for only one reason. himself". His voice rising in anger at times, Emanuel called the deal "a whitewash of justice" and lashed out at Smollett.

"This was not an exoneration", said Joe Magata, First Assistant State Attorney.

Defense attorneys said Smollett's record was "wiped clean" of the 16 felony counts related to making a false report. "There was no political influence in this case", she said. I don't know what's going on. "They were his trainers", Holmes said.

She also accused the police of leaking incomplete and inaccurate information to the media. "The public took that information and treated it as if it were true", she said. "Mr. Smollett is still saying that he is innocent, still running down the Chicago police department".

"We stand behind the work that they did. But in the end, this was the justice position in the case", he said.

Reportedly, Smollett performed a total of 16 hours of volunteer service on Saturday and Monday for the Rainbow Push Coalition, which was founded by the Rev. Jesse Jackson.

"It may not have been the disposition that everybody thought would occur", Magats told the affiliate.

Lanier also tells the judge she has an order from the Clerk of the Circuit Court to release the bond amount to the City of Chicago. He did forfeit $10,000. Smollett, however, has maintained his innocence, saying, "I have been truthful and consistent on every single level since day one". "I would not be my mother's son if I was capable of doing what I was accused of", said Smollett. Then the Federal Bureau of Investigation reportedly said the Chicago police "overstated" their Smollett case.
