Possible flood warning issued for Saturday

Potential flooding is possible this weekend

The restrictions came as the river reached moderate flood stage at almost 32 feet on Friday at Omaha, where it's expected to crest at almost 34 feet on Monday, according to the National Weather Service.

A flood warning has been issued for the Nith River through New Hamburg and Ayr as flows are expected to peak on Friday afternoon and late Saturday morning, respectively.

Midland city officials say Emerson Park, Dublin Avenue, West St. Andrews Road, Currie Parkway, Pomranky Road, St. Charles Street and Poseyville Road likely will be under water this weekend.

Rapid rises in water levels are expected to impact the Fremont area and a new flash flood alert has been issued.

The family of 50-year-old James Wilke, of Columbus, Nebraska, says he was driving his tractor to rescue stranded motorists on a county road cut off by flooding Thursday when a bridge he was crossing collapsed. The releases are expected to worsen flooding downstream, though the agency was helping with levee monitoring and other flood response measures, and it stopped releases from Fort Randall Dam upstream from Gavins Point.

It said the plant continued to operate safely and there was no threat to plant employees or to the public. A wind advisory is in effect from 10 a.m. -7 p.m. Wednesday, and a high wind watch is in effect from 9 a.m. -7 p.m. Thursday. The city is now working to bolster levees. Runoff from several inches of melting snow coupled with recent rains have pushed creeks out of their banks, left low-lying land underwater, and caused rivers to swell. The state's emergency operations center has already been activated. There remains some uncertainty in the current track of this weather system which may affect the timing and amount of rainfall and snow melt associated with this event. Flood stage is 15.0 feet. There are no immediate reports of any injuries, but homes and trees were damaged and power was knocked out to thousands.

Flooding is also common if somewhat less widespread in parts of Wisconsin, Minnesota, Michigan, and South Dakota in particular.

In Omaha, the National Weather Service office was evacuated due to flooding concerns. Do not attempt to cross flooded roads.
