Netflix's new documentary series is set to set the record straight about that exactly happened to Madeleine on the night of her disappearance.

Three-year-old Madeleine was kidnapped while she was vacationing with her family in Portugal in 2007 and 11-years, 10 months and 4 days later her case is still open and has been labeled as one of the most heavily reported investigations.

Directed by Fyre: The Greatest Party that Never Happened and Jim & Andy director Chris Smith, the series is produced by Pulse Films and Paramount Television and exec produced by Emma Cooper and Thomas Benski.

A trailer for the eight part series is expected to be released today [Thursday], and is packed full of interviews with 40 experts and people associated with the case, reports The Sun.

The claim will be made in a bombshell new Netflix documentary to be released this week.

Her disappearance sparked a large missing persons investigation and attracted huge media attention. The parents reportedly checked on the children throughout the evening until they discovered that Madeleine was missing at about 10 p.m.

The child's parents, Kate and Gerry McCann, have previously criticised the programme, saying it "could potentially hinder" the ongoing investigation into their daughter's disappearance.

"It goes beyond the headlines and takes a unique look at the facts of the case as well as its impact on media standards around the world".

The McCanns hired private investigators to look into the disappearance of their daughter, and eventually the British police also got involved. Journalists who covered the story, a man who was identified as a possible suspect, and friends and associates of the McCanns also spoke to filmmakers.

Despite numerous offers from the filmmakers, Kate and Gerry declined to take part in the documentary, with their former spokesperson insisting: "We want nothing to do with it".

The documentary comes out on Friday 15 March, so for all those true-crime fans, it will definitely be one to mark in your diaries.
