World Kidney Day 2019 Five Tips To Take Care Of The Important Organ

Washington, DC, March 14, 2019 -(PR.com)- The CardioVascular Coalition (CVC), a coalition of cardiovascular and endovascular care providers, physicians, and manufacturers created to improve awareness, prevention, and intervention of vascular disease, is urging increased understanding for kidney health and related health conditions, including Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD), in recognition of World Kidney Day.

The theme of the current year is 'Kidney Health for Everyone Everywhere'.

Exercise is the cornerstone for good health, but it's also good for maintaining and improving kidney functions. These people either require dialysis and/or kidney transplantation as a form of medical treatment. "According to research, consuming plenty of fluids decreases the risk of developing chronic kidney disease to a considerable extent, helping kidneys remove sodium, urea and toxins from the body".

He said, it is not automatic that every diabetic or hypertensive patient would have a kidney disease, adding that, factors such as severe malaria, severe dehydration and excessive loss of blood either through a surgery or any other means could contribute to kidney disease.

Dr. Nelson said risk factors include high blood pressure, diabetes, cholesterol problems, and family history of chronic kidney disease.

"We know that high blood pressure can cause a stroke or heart attack, but few are aware that it is one of the most common causes of kidney damage".

"It is quite appropriate that we come down to the people in order to enlighten them on what can be done to prevent and possibly to even check themselves for occurrence of kidney diseases".

Though national policies and strategies for non-communicable diseases (NCDs) in general are present in many countries, specific policies directed toward screening, prevention and treatment of kidney diseases are often lacking, World Health Organization said. Our best bet is to keep our kidneys healthy by following healthy practices.

Ominisan said: "I am happy that I got screened today because I have been waiting to go to the hospital for checkup, but there is no money and I know many people here are like that". It also happens to be the 6th fastest growing cause of death globally. Though, many times, there are no marked early symptoms.

Poorly functioning kidneys can result in electrolyte imbalances. Testing is important because if kidney disease is detected early, its progression can often be slowed or stopped with lifestyle and diet changes, as well as medications. But the good news is that being mindful of certain things can avert it. But, it is important to try and locate the cause of the malfunction so it can be treated or reversed as best as possible.

He said: "We know from experience that most kidney diseases tend to occur in the middle and low socioeconomic group to which the population here belongs".

He said that between 20 and 30 per cent of people who present for community-based medical and health screenings were affected by kidney diseases. After all, the kidneys do perform some critical functions for all of us.
