Mysterious UFO Spotted Over Los Angeles Sky

Red Bull Wingsuit Stunt Lights Up Downtown Night Sky

"Did anyone else see a meteor fly over downtown L.A. and the six helicopters surrounding it now?!" one Twitter user wrote.

Angelenos have a history of crying "aliens!" when they see something they haven't seen before in the sky (like that SpaceX launch last year), but if there ever are extraterrestrials or a murderous meteor screaming toward us, we'll be sure to let you know.

"Saw a meteor burn through the sky of LA today", another Twitter user wrote.

The Los Angeles Police Department soon weighed in to set the record straight.

Red Bull Wingsuit Stunt Lights Up Downtown Night Sky
That Flaming 'Meteor' Over Downtown LA Was Just A Publicity Stunt, Because 2019

After detecting odd, unidentified streaks of light disturbing the evening sky, thousands of Los Angeles residents confused the breathtaking wingsuit flying skills of Red Bull Air Force with a meteor flyby, even an alien invasion.

Red Bull filmed flare-wielding wingsuit jumpers against the backdrop of the supermoon, to the delight of people on the ground waiting with smartphones tilted up for the moment the jumpers touched down.

Wearing wingsuits fitted with LED lights and glowing pyrotechnics, the three-man team made quite an entrance at 120mph after jumping from a helicopter 4,000 feet above Los Angeles to perform the spectacular stunts.

For the amount of attention Red Bull's fireball received on social media and television, it was clearly a success as far as publicity stunts go. Many thought it was a UFO or meteor, but it didn't come from out of this world.
