While the lights-off event is a symbolic gesture, Earth Hour has led successful campaigns over the past decade to ban plastics in the Galapagos Islands and plant 17 million trees in Kazakhstan.

Earth Hour is an annual tradition in which people switch off their lights to spread awareness about sustainability and climate change. It is not a simultaneous event and the Earth Hour time depends on your local time, and the participants around the world will switch off lights when it is 8:30pm in their local time. "Together, they are participating in creating a new future that will change the world we live in, not just for our generation but for our children, their children and so on". Every action we take impacts life around us, and increasingly those impacts are harmful. Keeping in mind environment and climate change, people are encouraged to switch off unnecessary lights and appliances like fridges, freezers, hot water cylinders, lights, and dryers to conserve energy.

This year's Earth Hour theme is #Connect2Earth.

"This is part of our efforts to join millions around the world to highlight the urgency of global climate action".

Sydney Opera House, Egypt's Great Pyramids, the Eiffel Tower in Paris, Brazil's Christ the Redeemer monument and the Empire State Building in NY are among the sites worldwide where the lights will be switched off.

Partit Demokratiku will be celebrating Earth Hour by candlelight in the village square of Mqabba at a pub on Triq San Bażilju.

Earth Hour started as a lights-out event in Sydney in 2007. "Earth Hour is an important opportunity to show that even little things can make a big difference when enough of us do them".
