Michael Jackson used 'The Simpsons' to groom boys: Al Jean

The Simpsons' showrunner Al Jean has claimed that Michael Jackson used his 1991 cameo on the show for "part of what he used to groom boys".

When asked to elaborate on what this false goal is, Jean said: "I think it was part of what he used to groom boys". "It's from the heart, on our part, and I think Jim [Brooks] put it really well".

"The Simpsons" co-creator James L. Brooks confirmed last week that Jackson's famous episode, "Stark Raving Dad", would be pulled from airing on television in syndication and removed from FXX's "Simpsons World" on-demand service and future reissues of the show's DVD sets.

Following the allegations that of sexual misconduct and child abuse that were made against Michael Jackson in the documentary Leaving Neverland, a variety of radio stations - including RTÉ - have refused to play Jackson's music.

"Stark Raving Dad" aired on 19 September 1991 and featured Jackson voicing a character called Leon Kompowsky, a mental institution patient who claimed to be the singer himself. Leon is welcomed into the Simpson home, where he helps Bart write a birthday song for Lisa, "Happy Birthday Lisa".

Transport for London have said they will remove bus posters proclaiming Michael Jackson's innocence after coming under fire for allowing them to be posted in the wake of child sex abuse accusations against the late singer. The episode was written by Jean himself.

Al Jean said that the financial costs of cutting Jackson out of the show completely are worth it given the severity of the allegations brought against him. "It was something that was used as a tool, and I strongly believe that", Reiss explained to The Daily Beast. He wasn't entirely a Cosby parody either, which is why I don't think anybody looks at the character now and says "Oh, that's Bill Cosby".

Jean added that while the episode was "one of the most successful things I ever did", pulling it was "the right move". "I don't believe in going through and making judgements on every guest star and saying "this one was bad, that one was bad", but the episode itself has a false objective, and that's what I object to about it now".

FOX's beloved animated comedy celebrates its 30th anniversary with a 15-hour marathon on FX Networks. Despite this, Jean assured The Daily Beast that he believes "removing it is appropriate".
