Miami Dolphins Trade Ryan Tannehill To Tennessee Titans

Ryan Tannehill's contract was to balloon to £14.1m in base salary this year

Tannehill's agent confirmed Friday that the quarterback has been traded to the Tennessee Titans.

Tannehill's agency, SportsTrust Advisors, announced the move on Twitter. The Dolphins are receiving a seventh-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft and a 2020 fourth-round pick.

Tannehill's departure from Miami had been expected.

Tannehill's new contract is for $7 million for one season and is fully guaranteed.

Blaine Gabbert served as Mariota's back-up last season. The only two on the depth chart are Luke Falk, a rookie from Washington state; and Jake Rudock, a three-year veteran out of MI. You could argue that he and Tannehill are incredibly similar - both are athletic, accurate quarterbacks and their playing style feels similar.

One possibility is Tuanigamanuolepola "Tua" Tagovailoa, the quarterback of NCAA champion Alabama Crimson Tide. Tua will not be available next year.

In 2018, Tannehill started 11 games for the Dolphins, and he completed 176-of-274 passes for 1,979 yards and 17 touchdowns, with nine interceptions. But he is likely to be drafted by the Cardinals, who hold rights to the number-one pick.

Teddy Bridgewater recently turned down an offer to play in Miami and re-signed with the New Orleans Saints. Paying big-time money for a backup quarterback has proven to be a viable approach (see: the Eagles and Nick Foles) and it makes all the sense in the world for the Titans, a team with Marcus Mariota now positioned as its starter.
