Leica Q2 full frame camera launched: Price, specification & more

Leica updates already impressive full-frame compact camera

Focusing speeds remain the same as the Q's, with the Leica Q2 boasting a focusing speed of 0.15 seconds.

The Q2's "Maestro II" processor has also been upgraded, enabling continuous shooting at up to 10 fps at the full capture resolution of 47.3 MP and with continuous autofocusing. Continuing to be the great travel companion, the Leica Q2 has weather sealing to keep dust and water out.

Regarding new shooting features, the Q2 has a slightly lower base ISO of 50 (compared to 100 for the Q) while maintaining the same maximum ISO of 50,000 despite the higher-megapixel chip. Users can also choose a crop factor between 35mm, 50mm or 75mm courtesy of digital zoom. Whereas the Q topped out at Full HD, the Q2 can record 4K UHD (3840 x 2160) and Cinema 4K (4096 x 2160) video at up to 30 and 24 frames per second respectively. The cropped image is saved in JPEG format with its respectively reduced resolutions of 47.3, 30, 14.7, or 6.6 megapixels; the uncropped image is also automatically saved as a DNG file with the full resolution of 47.3 megapixels. In combination with the Leica FOTOS App, the camera's integrated Wi-Fi module makes it possible to quickly and easily share pictures and video in social media, change numerous camera settings from a smartphone or even or even remotely control the shutter release of the Leica Q2.

A redesigned push-button dioptre setting dial on the back of the camera prevents inadvertent shifting of the compensation value.

The Leica Q2 will be available for sales in India around mid-April. The touchscreen on Q2 has the same specs as the prior model, but Leica says it is a newer generation panel. No, neither do we, but at least we can think about owning Leica's latest offering - the Q2. It also comes with a Leica Summilux 28mm F1.7 ASPH prime lens and a few optional accessories which you can purchase from the market. The pouches will initially be available in midnight blue, stone gray and red colorways, with more still to come. The range also includes technical equipment for the Leica Q2 such as the Leica SF 40, SF 60 flash units, the SF C1 remote flash control unit, an additional thumb rest and a handgrip. All accessories are functionally designed for easy handling, perfectly matching the quality and design of the camera and are manufactured from only the finest materials to ensure reliability for a lifetime of use. We did find, during our brief hands-on at the camera's launch in the new, [and very swanky] Leica flagship store & gallery in London, the autofocus struggled; sometime second guessing itself in low light when set to continuous AF, but otherwise worked well and pinned the subject down well.

The Leica Q2 is on sale now at the Leica Store Mayfair, Leica Store City and from authorised Leica dealers globally at £4,250 [RRP & inc VAT].
