Jones hails Gatland for Welsh 'resurrection'

CJ Stander charges forwards against Wales in last year's Six Nations

It was the start of Gatland's first Grand Slam as Wales coach, a feat the Welsh repeated in 2012.

Wales, Ireland, and England are all in running for Six Nations glory on "Super Saturday". Keith Earls 13. Garry Ringrose 12.

England will be buoyed by getting revenge for their defeat against Scotland past year, and if Ireland keep up their end of the bargain the Championship Trophy could still be coming to Twickenham.

As rugby fans try to make sense of it all, they know that if Wales beat Ireland in Cardiff they will be crowned Six Nations champions.

"If it was me, I'd be concentrating on playing Scotland".

"If no-one does think we're going to win, then that's fine", said Scotland coach Gregor Townsend. "We'll be in the game (against France)", he said. It's our last game of the Six Nations, our last game in front of our home crowd and we want to put on a good performance.

"We don't have any plan [about the Wales game]", he added.

However, as they showed in the autumn, they are a top-notch side and it was just the disappointment in the opening game against England in Dublin which has undermined their tournament.

"We've named an unchanged squad and rewarded the players for the last couple of outings and the last couple of victories".

"I can guarantee you on Saturday, if we do win, there will be plenty of emotion afterwards".

"They have made more tackles than anyone else in the tournament and they are playing against an Ireland side that seems to be peaking at the right time".

Gatland recounted in his book in 2017 how he informed Schmidt he would be dropping by the Ireland camp to see him - about being a coach on the prospective Lions tour to New Zealand that year, an offer he declined - and sit in on a team meeting.

"They're well coached and I'm sure they'll handle it and if they do, then it doesn't matter for us as we have to play (Scotland)".

"In the early years he was a bit hot-headed and temperamental, and he was the one starting the fights in training and stuff, and that is what a competitor he is".
