Harry Potter: Wizards Unite Up for Pre-Registration on Google Play

Niantic Reveals Muggle-Approved AR Game, Harry Potter: Wizards Unite

There'll also be combat in the form of Fortresses dotted around the map, where you'll be able to battle with other players against risky foes in a manner that sounds not dissimilar to Pokemon Go's gym battles, as well as professions that will allow you to specalise in the types of magic. In order to free them, you have to trace a glyph on the screen to cast the appropriate spell. You swap between professions, like Auror or Professor, and level up within each one's lengthy skill tree to improve things like your spellcasting ability. Pre-registration for Android players is available through Google Play.

While you can't pre-register for the game on iPhone yet, the Harry Potter: Wizards Unite team says you should "stay tuned for more updates".

The announcement also has a number of gameplay GIFs, so you can kinda see what Niantic is getting at. "These real-time multiplayer battles against risky foes encourage players to join forces with fellow witches and wizards to take on higher level threats and unlock rare magical rewards".

Foundables will appear at various types of real-world locations including parks, banks, municipal buildings, college campuses, libraries, monuments, zoos, art galleries, and more.

Harry Potter: Wizards Unite will launch in 2019 - the exact time frame has not been confirmed.

Shouldn't there be some kind of smartphone-connected wand controller players can cast spells with?

Does Wizards Unite bring any new AR experiences?

More news: Ex-Giant Landon Collins will sign with Redskins on 6-year deal

Casting spells will use up Spell Energy, which can be replenished by stopping by "Inns, found at Muggle locations around the world, to collect food and drinks".

Will you be able to turn off AR like in Pokemon Go?

While there's still A LOT of details yet to come, we are beginning to see the first glimpse of the in-game UI and elements of game play. One Complication gameplay example by Niantic showed a young Harry in need of saving from a Dementor, while Ron was trapped by a giant spider on roller skates.

The moment I know many of you have been waiting for... isn't here just yet.

Wizards Unite will be a free app that offers in-app purchases.

Wizards Unite, Niantic and WB Games San Francisco have been teasing the augmented reality game for months, sprinkling the game's Twitter with graphics and live-action videos.
