Google plans to offer in-game rewards for watching video ads

This is how Rewarded Video will work

Google on Thursday introduced a new feature in Google Play that will make it easier for Android developers to monetize their user base.

This new tool will allow app users that don't pay to contribute in a way to the app's revenue stream. Then, the company offered video rewards to keep tuning in for users.

The launch of Google's Reward program is coinciding with Apple's subscription program that supports substantial revenue growth for iOS app developers. About 500 is the maximum number of apps the developer can block across all of specific apps and one account.

Of course, others are likely to jump at the opportunity of wasting a few seconds to gain in-game currency or other perks without actually spending any money.

Google's backing might take video ads to the next level.

It really does not seem a nice way to go about it, unless, perhaps, it is presented as the only way to play a popular game, which was previously paid-only, for free. It has actually worked for some apps.

From an everyday user's standpoint, this product could be seen as convenient. or a major pain in the behind. Pandora rolled out the rewarded video strategy after it brought on-demand streaming to compete with Spotify. App users can choose to watch a video advertisement. Now available in a beta test, the service can be accessed via the Google Play Console, Davis said. Obviously, Google is not giving up that fight so easily, seeking new ways to make it easier for Android app developers to earn money, which in turn can generate higher earnings for the search giant. It is available in the Play Console for developers.
