Game Of Thrones Season 8's First Two Episodes Aren't Extra Long

Game Of Thrones Season 8's First Two Episodes Aren't Extra Long

The network has updated its schedule (as first spotted by Winter is Coming) to reveal the season 8 series premiere on Sunday, April 14 will be precisely 54 minutes.

The third episode will have a runtime of 60 minutes, a full one hour, after which the episodes will start getting considerably longer to account for the last season of arguably the world's most popular TV show.

Those final four episodes probably fall in the 75-85 minute range with all of the proper notifications going out and most parties probably being fine with it because of how huge Game of Thrones is worldwide. What D.B. Weiss and David Benioff want, is for fans to react like they did for the ending of Breaking Bad: 'I hope we'll have the same discussion as Breaking Bad where people were wondering if it was an A or an A +,' Weiss told EW.

Are you excited about the return of Game of Thrones? I'm pretty sure HBO never put any kind of limitations on how long episodes should be and we have actually had a longer episode already in Season 7.

Game of Thrones season 8: How long the first two episodes are

The runtimes for Season 8 get progressively longer as the season unfolds, but is not uncommon for Game of Thrones. The second episode on April 21 will be 58 minutes. There was some suggestion that each episode would be extra long, possibly movie-length.

As Sansa Stark actress Sophie Turner once revealed, "I was satisfied with how unpredictable the show's ending really is".

"I'm completely satisfied with how season 8 ends", Nutter wrote. That's shorter than the Lord of the Rings trilogy, but still epic in scope, especially considering the final season of Game of Thrones is only the end of the A Song of Ice and Fire saga. Check back with Looper before the season 8 launch to learn what the final six episodes are titled.
