New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern speaks to the media

On Saturday, Christchurch Hospital said 39 people remained in hospital, 11 of them in intensive care.

At a roadblock outside the Al Noor mosque on Sunday, about 40 people were standing in silence near scores of bunches of flowers.

Outside one of the two mosques, 32-year-old Ash Mohammed pushed through police barricades in hopes of finding out what happened to his father and two brothers, whose cellphones rang unanswered.

Whether it was at her media conference in the immediate aftermath of the Christchurch mosque massacre on Friday or comforting the devastated Muslim community in the shaken city yesterday, the 38-year-old leader has displayed the right balance of strength and compassion in the aftermath of the atrocity that killed 49 and injured 39 more.

New Zealand law enforcement is working with Australian intelligence and police in the "wide-reaching" investigation, the commissioner said.

Ardern, who described the atrocity as a "terrorist attack" and "one of New Zealand's darkest days", vowed to impose stricter gun laws.

"Unfortunately, we are all too familiar with the devastating effect a mass shooting has on a faith community", said Meryl Ainsman, chair of the board of the Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh.

The staff member monitoring the accounts sent it to parliamentary services as soon as they saw it, who sent it to police, the spokesman said. Two men faced charges unrelated or "tangential" to the attack, while a woman had been released, he said.

New Zealand's Minister for Pacific Peoples Aupito William Sio said he spoke to one of the Trustees of the Festival last night about the decision, and why it was made.

None of those arrested had a criminal history or were on watchlists in New Zealand or Australia.

Two other suspected accomplices have also been arrested. "I am very sorry to miss your calls and text messages.I am really tired.please pray for my son, me and my daughter.I am just posting this video to show you that I am fully ok", said Wasseim Alsati, who was reportedly shot three times.

The nationalities of the victims included Indian, Pakistani, Malaysian, Indonesian, Egyptian, Bangladeshi, Saudi, Somalian and Turkish, authorities said. "The people of New Zealand are in our thoughts and prayers". Armed police were deployed at several locations in all cities, unusual in a country where levels of gun violence are low.

Brenton Tarrant, 28, used five guns - "two semi-automatic weapons, two shotguns and a lever-action firearm", the prime minister said. Prime Minister Narendra Modi Friday wrote to his New Zealand counterpart expressing his deepest condolences to the bereaved families of the victims.

Ardern called on the USA government to show "sympathy and love for all Muslim communities", and told the press that "the person who has committed this violent act has no place here".
