Canadian YouTube star Lilly Singh to host NBC late-night show

Please Welcome Our Late Night Host Lilly Singh

The move comes in the wake of Carson Daly announcing he's stepping down as the host of Last Call.

"The rebranded 'A Little Late with Lilly Singh" is set to premiere in the fall and will include comedy segments and interviews.

"I'm so excited because I truly get to create a show from scratch".

The daughter of Indian immigrants in Canada, Singh, who recently came out as bisexual, will also be one of the few women of color and queer women in late-night comedy. She thanked all the women who have been before her and are now in the space for paving the way. Truly, I couldn't have. "But I do think it's a little awesome".

Daly announced last month "Last Call" would be ending after 17 years to focus on his roles on NBC's "Today", "The Voice" and The Golf Channel, and to spend more time with his family.

Singh will be the only woman to host a daily late-night show on a major broadcast network.

Singh, who is Canadian-Indian, first came to prominence online as a satirical comedian and commentator. "I'm thrilled to bring it to life on NBC, and I hope my parents consider this to be as exciting as a grandchild".

Lilly Singh, who became a social media star with her YouTube videos, will now be hosting a late night show on NBC.

Lilly Singh got her start as a Canadian YouTube personality, and by 2017 she ranked tenth on the Forbes list of the world's highest paid YouTube stars, earning about $10.5 million.

She later wrote about the announcement in an Instagram post.

"✅ Female ✅ Coloured ✅ Bisexual ••• Throughout my life these have proven to be obstacles from time to time". But now I'm fully embracing them as my superpowers. "This has been SO long in the making and I'm so happy I can finally share this with you". Under the moniker "IISuperwomanII", she now has 14.5 million YouTube subscribers.

As an actress, she appeared in the Emmy-nominated HBO film Fahrenheit 451, opposite Michael Shannon and Michael B. Jordan. She also appeared in the films Bad Moms and Ice Age: Collision Course.
