Apple sets March 25 event, expected to announce Netflix rival

Apple confirms March 25th ‘It’s show time’ event with media invites

Apple is also believed to be working on a subscription news service aimed at shaking up the world of journalism.

As always, Apple isn't explicitly saying what we can expect to happen at the event, but expectations are that we will see Apple take the wraps off of its new media services.

The company has not given any details on the products that would be launched during the event. Apple is also expected to reveal its plans to launch a magazine and news subscription service likened to a "Netflix for magazines". The invite includes a video that shows the Apple logo below the spotlight with a caption "Its show time".

In addition to the video streaming service, the news subscription service will probably be along for the ride as well. It's expected to launch this summer, and Apple is said to have invited celebrities such as Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon to attend the event, according to Bloomberg. Apple's live stream page gives some clues about the launch event.

It's not yet clear which news sites will be included, as Apple is said to be still negotiating financial terms with some news sites.

Apple acquired the digital magazine app Texture a year ago, which enables you to read a huge number of publications for a single monthly fee, a bit like a music streaming service. Apple has poured plenty of money and focus into developing its AR chops for iPhone and iPad and encouraging developers to build new AR applications for its devices. Apple has also refreshed its lineup previously during its events held in spring.
