Apple expected to launch video streaming service

'It's show time': Apple confirms launch event on March 25

We'll find out more on Monday, March 25 with the event taking place at Apple's headquarters in Cupertino from 10am local time - 5pm GMT.

Apple's streaming TV service is going to be a very significant force in the market if a market-analysis firm is correct.

The event, which is set for 10 a.m. local time at the Steve Jobs Theater, is momentous for a few reasons.

Apple, which recently stopped disclosing iPhone unit sales data, is increasingly trying to turn investors toward the long-term value of its services ecosystem.

The magazine subscription service will be integrated into the existing Apple News app and is based on the company's acquisition of Texture previous year.

The event will be live streamed on the 25th of March, and we will be covering it live as per usual. However, thanks to the short video invite sent by Apple, we have some idea of what Apple might be introducing. It would be competing directly with the widely popular services like Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, etc.

While Apple has kept quiet about aspirations in this area, it's been quietly acquiring the rights to TV shows for many months.

Some reports said actresses Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon and "Star Wars" director J.J. Abrams would join Apple at the event. There's the announcement itself, which will take the iPhone maker into territory dominated by rivals like Netflix and HBO - streaming giants that have been at this for a long time and know better than anyone how hard it is to pick creators and shows that generate buzz, viewership and the prestige that creatives team in any field covet.

Apple's two big product events-usually in March and September-are A Big Deal.

Apple is also in discussions with HBO, part of AT&T Inc-owned WarnerMedia, to become part of the service and it could yet make it in time for the launch, according to a person familiar with the matter.
