Video of woman in Canada throwing chairs from 45th floor sparks outrage

Woman seen on video tossing chair from Toronto condo surrenders to police

Police later said that Zoia threw a second chair off the balcony and pictures were circulating showing both heavily mangled and sitting near the entrance of the apartment building. Nobody was injured as a result of the of the chair throwing.

Marcella Zoia, of Toronto, faces three charges in the disturbing incident that was captured on video and posted to social media, drawing outrage from across the city. She was without a lawyer, police said, but has been cooperative with the investigation.

A woman is in custody after being accused of throwing a chair off of a high-rise apartment balcony on the morning of February 9 in Toronto.

Marcella Christianna Zoia, 19, a dental hygenist student, was released on bail Wednesday after Toronto Police charged her with mischief endangering life, mischief damage to property valued under $5,000, and being a common nuisance.

Police told CTV Toronto Tuesday that they had been in contact with "either the perpetrator herself or her representative" and were discussing arrangements for the woman to surrender.

"(She had) no regard for anybody that might be passing underneath", Const. David Hopkinson said, adding that the area is often filled with tourists and pedestrians.

Earlier reports suggested the woman was staying in an Airbnb rental in the building.

Luckily, no one was hurt, despite the evident stupidity and blatant disregard for others that we see in this video.

Toronto Mayor John Tory condemned the alleged actions, saying they can't be tolerated. "We are investigating whether any Airbnb guests were involved and we will be suspending any guest accounts that appear to be connected to this incident".

"I think it's a good thing that she turned herself in, but it doesn't change the apparent irresponsible behaviour", he said at an unrelated event Tuesday.
