No. 2 Duke shoots its way past No. 3 Virginia

Zion Williamson blocks a shot vs. Virginia

No college basketball team in the country would have beaten Duke on Saturday night.

You can't blame Virginia coach Tony Bennett for hoping the Blue Devils attempted as many 3-pointers as possible. That's how sound they are otherwise.

In completing the regular-season sweep over Virginia on Saturday night, the Blue Devils hit 13 of 21.

"It was a big loss", Hunter said of Diakite, who had seven points on 3-for-4 shooting.

Barrett hit his first five tries from 3-point range for the Blue Devils (21-2, 9-1 Atlantic Coast Conference).

Duke made five of its first eight shots after halftime, including three Reddish 3-pointers over the first five minutes, to push its lead back into double-digits.

But to start the second half, Duke's barrage from downtown continued, this time mostly at the hands of freshman Cam Reddish.

The Virginia men's basketball team lost to Duke for the second time this season, as the #3 Cavaliers fell 81-71 against the second-ranked Blue Devils on Saturday at John Paul Jones Arena.

It was the most three-pointers Virginia (20-2, 8-2) has permitted this season.

"I thought we were a little slow to our closeouts", Bennett said.

"They're just a good team, and we did what our principles tell us to do", Guy said. You got to read, 'Ok, when is that guy Ok on the ball?' and leave and be there on the catch. I think their offense will be more efficient and their defense won't have to change too much to keep Virginia down in scoring. "But we just tried to keep playing our game".

Duke head coach Mike Krzyzewski says, "We were fortunate we won". "I haven't thought about Carolina yet". Jones added two free throws not long after, and Duke led 59-49.

The Blue Devils' first two made field goals were Barrett 3-pointers as Duke jumped to an 8-0 lead.

The Cavaliers' last gasp was at 66-61, but Marques Bolden overpowered Jay Huff in the paint for an easy layup before Zion Williamson spiked a De'Andre Hunter 3-point jumper into the stands.

As Eric Hubbs of Barstool Sports showed, Williamson made a block that was arguably one of the most athletic plays ever.

The lead was 12.

It seemed as if Williamson was simply trying to avoid producing any headlines that would center on him. He didn't score in the second half until the aforementioned stickback with 4:03 remaining, and that was only his second shot of the half.

Williamson had 18 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists, 3 blocks and 3 steals in the game.

Duke played that game without Jones, who sat with a shoulder injury. He torched Virginia for 30 points last month on an array of drives and making only one 3-pointer.

Virginia has the nation's top defense, as the Cavs are giving up just 52.9 points per game while holding opponents to 37 percent shooting from the field and 24.7 percent from the arc.
