Newspaper Carrier Finds Newborn Abandoned in Frigid Temperatures on Central Valley Road; Mother Sought

Aurelio Fuentes Jr., a newspaper carrier for The Fresno Bee, told the publication that he was glad he was driving slowly and had the radio volume down, as he was able to hear the infant before he spotted it and got out of his vehicle to investigate.

Aurelio Fuentes Jr., from Madera County in California, was several hours into his shift when the 21-year-old saw "a bright white thing laying on the road", United States news outlet ABC30 reported.

The woman invited Fuentes and the baby into her heated auto, where the two chose to unzip its soiled flannel onesie.

A man was walking in a rural area at Avenue 13 1/2 near Road 28 about 4:30 a.m. when a woman approached him in her SUV. He refused and suggested she take the newborn to a fire station or hospital. She was last seen fleeing the scene in the small SUV of unknown make or model, authorities said. Ironically, there was a staffed fire station within a mile or two, and Valley Children's Hospital is very nearby.
