NASA seeks industry help for human lunar landers

NASA has called on American firms to help develop human lunar landers

At the same time the Russians are planning to send astronauts to the moon in 2031 to set up experiments by the Russian Academy of Sciences, report Sputnik who claims to have had access to documents from the Russian Central Research Institute of Machine Building.

As the next major step to return astronauts to the Moon under Space Policy Directive-1, NASA announced plans on December 13 to work with American companies to design and develop new reusable systems for astronauts to land on the lunar surface.

But first, he said, the agency needs to train and refine techniques for Mars by having humans go back to the moon in about 10 years. A key aspect of this proposed approach is to use the Gateway for roundtrip journeys to and from the surface of the Moon.

An important task is to come up with technology that will allow astronauts to land safely on the moon. Initially NASA expects two of the lander elements to be reusable and refueled by cargo ships carrying fuel from Earth to the Gateway. But, Musk's comments could also mean that the firm is simultaneously making plans to get to the Moon.

Nasa is ramping up plans to go back to the moon on a more permanent basis.

NASA published a formal request for proposals to an appendix of the second Next Space Technologies for Exploration Partnerships (NextSTEP-2) Broad Agency Announcement on February 7, and responses are due March 25.

Such moon expeditions, Clarke said, will not only give NASA a chance to "learn our lessons" on a non-Earth body, but it is also far closer than Mars. We are going to the moon with innovative new technologies and systems to explore more locations across the surface than we ever thought possible.

NASA is taking the aid of US-based companies for buidling a reusable system and lunar landers so that landing on Moon is enabled.

In fact, NASA wants to ensure that there ain't a day without humans on space and this time, there should be a lot of them.
