T-Mobile US Inc told the U.S. Federal Communications Commission on Monday it would not increase prices for three years, with few exceptions, if it gets approval to buy rival Sprint Corp for $26 billion.
That means he's publicly guaranteeing that there will be no price hikes for the next three years.
Now that the government has officially reopened and the review process for T-Mobile's proposed merger with Sprint has presumably picked back up, CEO John Legere made a decision to take this opportunity to reach out to Chairman Ajit Pai and the FCC to plead his case for the merger to go through "expeditiously".
One of the biggest concerns and arguments against the T-Mobile/Sprint merger is that the newly joined company would suddenly raise its prices in an unfair way. We believe this merger makes consumers better off, and we're willing to put our money where our mouth is.
More news: Don`t blame China for taking our advantage, blame our leaders: Donald TrumpThe merger between T-Mobile and Sprint is expected to create stronger competition with AT&T and Verizon, according to Legere and Marcelo Claure, Sprint executive chairman, especially with the battle of 5G heating up.
The pledge comes a week before two committees in the House of Representatives - Energy and Commerce and Judiciary - hold a joint hearing to discuss the transaction.
For the past four years, T-Mobile and Sprint have been trying to merge together. I want to assure you that we would never do this. Now, more than any time previously, it looks like the T-Mobile Sprint merger could actually happen. T-Mobile and Sprint will also need approval from the Justice Department to move forward with the merger. Consumer advocates have said that since Sprint and T-Mobile have a big market share in prepaid plans favored by the poorest wireless customers, they were likely to be disproportionately hurt by the planned deal.
