Former Fleetwood Mac singer and guitarist Lindsey Buckingham has undergone emergency open heart surgery that has resulted in vocal cord damage.

Elsewhere in the note, she says that Buckingham suffered some vocal cord damage in the midst of the health crisis.

Buckingham, 69, was sacked from the British-American band previous year. In October, he sued the band members for the $12 million he lost in Fleetwood Mac's upcoming tour. But despite all this, our gratitude for life trumps all obstacles we have faced at this moment. The news was broken by his wife, Kristen Buckingham.

She said Buckingham's late father and brother also had heart-related problems. We feel so fortunate he's alive.

She continued stating that the announcement served as a dual goal to inform fans that Lindsey was pausing future shows in an effort to "heal completely" and to also inspire someone to 'seek preventative care'. Fleetwood Mac was founded in 1967.
