Leeds' Jack Clarke taken to hospital after collapsing during Boro clash

The 18-year-old winger started for Marcelo Bielsa's side but was substituted at half-time.

Clarke sparked a scare over his health, after collapsing on the bench during Leeds United's 1-1 draw against Middlesbrough this past weekend.

The incident saw 12 minutes of injury time added on, bringing the game to a standstill too.

Clarke's agent, the former Leeds defender Ian Harte, said: 'We'd like to thank Middlesbrough's medical team, and also everyone involved at James Cook Hospital, where the staff have been brilliant.

'The player is responsive and attending hospital with the club's head of medicine and performance.

The teenage midfielder was treated by paramedics on the visitor's bench and given oxygen before being stretchered to the dressing room after play was halted when he was taken unwell towards the end of Saturday's game at the Riverside Stadium. "He was taken to the hospital to see if everything is all right".

Clarke has since been released but chief executive Angus Kinnear has informed fans of the decision taken by the club. "We don't know the reasons yet", he said.

The same story says that Klopp recently sent Liverpool FC scouts to keep tabs on Clarke's progress. "All our thoughts go to the lad Clarke".

Despite having only made his senior debut last October, Clarke has been one of Leeds' star performers, making 16 league appearances, scoring two goals and providing two assists. Sheffield United are within touching distance of that final automatic promotion place, however, and are only three points behind Leeds.
