British lawmaker Yvette Cooper, one of the leading campaigners against Britain leaving the European Union without an agreement with the bloc, unveiled a new plan on Tuesday to ensure parliament has a chance to vote on ruling out a no-deal Brexit.
However, after failing to rally Northern Irish support last week, and with Brussels dismissing further negotiations, PM May is facing domestic criticism.
May's negotiators arrived in Brussels only days after May, herself, came to the city on February 7 when she met European Union officials after the British House of Commons voted to reject the Withdrawal Agreement.
Mr Robbins suggested the strategy would be to tell the Commons in the final week of March that if an amended version of the government's deal wasn't passed, talks would have to be extended, potentially for a long time, ITV reported on Tuesday. "We now all need to hold our nerve to get the changes this House requires and deliver Brexit on time".
After talks in Strasbourg at the European Parliament, UK Brexit minister Stephen Barclay said there was "a lot of goodwill on both sides" to achieve a deal.
But Labour claims Mrs May is planning to delay the final, binding vote on the withdrawal deal she has agreed with the European Union until the last possible moment, so that MPs will be faced with a stark choice between her deal and no deal.
The EU has signalled that it could tweak the political declaration on the future relationship.
On January 15, MPs voted it down by 432 votes to 202 in an historic defeat for the prime minister, brought about by opposition to the backstop from within May's own party.
Pro-Brexit Tory MPs also pressed Ms.

Warning that the Prime Minister was preparing to use the extra time needed to get an agreement for her deal - which may never materialise anyway - to delay Brexit, UKIP leader Gerard Batten warned the Prime Minister of the potential repercussions for her party if she betrayed Brexit. "We must have our own, independent trade policy", May's spokesman said on Monday.
Brexiteer MPs in her Conservative Party are particularly unhappy with the so-called backstop provision meant to keep the border with Ireland free-flowing.
Corbyn faces pressure from some of his own MPs, who want him to push for a second referendum.
"By getting the changes we need to the backstop; by protecting and enhancing workers' rights and environmental protections; and by enhancing the role of Parliament in the next phase of negotiations, I believe we can reach a deal that this House can support", May said. "Prime Minister, you've come to the end of the road".
Michel Barnier, the EU's chief negotiator for Brexit, said Monday he found Corbyn's proposal "interesting".
But EU leaders insist the legally binding withdrawal agreement can't be changed.
The risks to this outlook included: the possibility of banks becoming more reckless in their lending, triggering another financial crisis; the possibility of China slowing more sharply than expected, weighing down global growth; and the risk of imbalances in global trade, and in income or wealth distribution, spurring greater protectionism and "de-globalisation".
Business leaders have argued that a no-deal Brexit would spell disaster for the UK's economy.
