Jay-Z hires lawyer for British rapper 21 Savage in visa case

Rapper 21 Savage performs onstage during day one of the Rolling Loud Festival at Banc of California Stadium on Dec. 14 2018 in Los Angeles California

According to the latest police report, police claim 21 Savage was driving a Dodge Challenger when he attempted to get over to another street and illegally drove on a curb.

21 Savage was arrested over the weekend after it emerged that he was living in the United States without a valid visa.

TMZ has reportedly obtained three police reports that suggest that 21 drove his red Dodge Challenger over the sidewalk in an attempt to get to another street, where he was then pulled over and ordered to drop the auto keys out the window.

U.S. lawyer Alex Spiro confirmed to Variety that Jay-Z had hired him for the case.

As we reported, the musician - who was reportedly born on the island of Dominica, a British colony - was arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials for allegedly overstaying his visa, and is reportedly being prepared for "possible removal from the U.S".

A number of high profile American rap artists have come out in support of 21 Savage's right to stay in the United States, including Cardi B, Metro Boomin, Run The Jewels member Killer Mike, Post Malone and Quavo.

ICE spokesman Bryan Cox said on Sunday that the rapper was put in deportation proceedings because he has been living in the USA illegally since 2006 and has a felony conviction.

Police also found a loaded M4 rifle with a muzzle in the vehicle Kalil Smith was driving.

The statement continued: "Mr. Abraham-Joseph has been continuously physically present in the United States for nearly 20 years, except for a brief visit overseas". He was convicted of drugs charges in 2014.

Jay-Z called the detention "an absolute travesty".

"We are not going to stop until he is released, bonded out or in front of a judge ..."

He has applied for a U visa, designed for victims of crime who have suffered "substantial abuse" in the USA, after his lawyers said he survived a shooting in 2013.

"In addition to being a successful recording artist, 21 deserves to be reunited with his children immediately #Free21Savage".

Abraham-Joseph has three children who are American citizens, which his lawyers say make him eligible for deportation relief.
