Indians' Lindor likely to miss start of season

Francisco Lindor’s injury a reminder of his immense worth to the Indians and their championship hopes

Pitchers and catchers report to Goodyear on February 12. The regular season opens on March 28 at Target Field in Minneapolis. Lindor is reportedly expected to return to the field in early April. At minimum without a full spring training before Opening Day, Lindor is now a risky pick and it'll be interesting to see how that ADP is affected in the coming weeks.

Another option would be to move Jose Ramirez to shortstop temporarily.

-The New York Mets signed veteran middle infielder Danny Espinosa to a minor league contract, the team announced. The 31-year-old California native has made 600 appearances at second base and 220 at shortstop over eight major campaigns.

Spring training hasn't even begun, but already the Indians are dealing with a big injury to one of, if not the biggest star on the team. The shortstop informed the Indians Head Athletic Trainer about the discomfort on Monday.

Edwin Encarnacion, Yonder Alonso, Yan Gomes and Yandy Diaz were among the hitters the Indians traded this winter. Both are career highs.

Lindor avoided arbitration this offseason.

Cleveland has won the AL Central in each of the last three seasons.

Joyce hit 25 home runs and drove in 68 runs in 2017 but played in only 83 games last season while battling back injuries. Lindor led the team in hits and doubles past year.

Joyce will earn $1.25 million if he makes the big league club and could add $500,000 in incentives per a report from USA Today's Bob Nightengale. The one-time All-Star hit.208 with seven home runs and 34 runs. He has a.221 career average with 98 homers in 872 games between 2010-17.
