Danai Gurira Is Leaving The Walking Dead

Danai Gurira Announces The Walking Daed Exit

Danai Gurira arrives at the premiere of AMC's "The Walking Dead" 4th season at Universal CityWalk on October 3, 2013 in Universal City, California.

Danai Gurira, who shot to fame in 2012 when she joined the cast as the katana-wielding Michonne, is believed to have signed a deal for her last season on the show.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Gurira's new deal sees her return in a "limited capacity" for only a handful of episodes interspersed throughout the next season.

Broadcaster AMC has previously confirmed plans to bring back former Walking Dead lead Andrew Lincoln for a movie trilogy focused on his character, Rick Grimes.

Sorry Walking Dead fans, one of your favs is exiting the series.

The second half of season 9 of the zombie drama will begin airing on February 10. Right now, she's got a lot of opportunities and she needs to weigh what she feels is best for her.

No specific reason was given why she left the series, and AMC declined to comment about the news. "But we certainly would want her on the show as long as she wants to be on it", Madden said. It's imagined that Gurira will spend more time on Broadway, writing and starring in projects, in addition to her continued work on The Walking Dead and future big screen projects. Both of the Rick and Michonne characters are huge focusing points of Robert Kirkman's original source material, which the show is based on.

Gurira's MCU character Okoye, the captain of the Dorae Milaje, the Wakandan Royal Guard, fought alongside Earth's Mightiest Heroes in Avengers: Infinity War and will likely play a key role in the upcoming Avengers: Endgame.
