Albert Finney Dead at 82

The star was nominated five times for an Oscar - Best Actor for Tom Jones, Murder On The Orient Express, The Dresser and Under The Volcano, and Best Supporting Actor for his role in Erin Brockovich.

Finney disclosed in 2011 that he had been suffering from kidney cancer, The Guardian reported. He is survived by Delmage and his son, Simon, from his marriage to Wenham. He came along at a time when there was a huge surge in British new wave cinema in the 1960s. His screen career spanned six decades - from his first role in 1960 starring alongside Laurence Olivier in The Entertainer, through to his final turn in 2012. It also gave him plenty of exposure in the United States.

Other milestones include acting with Audrey Hepburn in 1967's Two for the Road and taking up the director's chair for 1968's Charlie Bubbles. Though that would be the only time he got behind the camera, Finney also used his clout as an uncredited producer on films like Privilege, Burning, and If.

Finney is best known for his roles in Tom Jones, Skyfall and Erin Brockovich, as well as Murder On The Orient Express, in which he played Hercules Poirot.

Many may recall him as Oliver "Daddy" Warbucks in the 1982 film "Annie" and as the title character in the 1970 musical film "Scrooge".

British actor Albert Finney, who rose to fame on a post-war wave of gritty, working-class dramas and became an Oscar-nominated worldwide star, has died at the age of 82. One year later, he won an Emmy for his portrayal of Winston Churchill in the BBC-HBO telefilm The Gathering Storm.

Finney rounded out his career by playing with two of the most famous spies on the big screen. However, fans of pop and geek culture probably know Finney best for his roles in big modern franchises like James Bond's Skyfall; as the shadowy mastermind doctor in The Bourne Ultimatum and the Bourne Legacy spinoff films; and Tim Burton projects like Corpse Bride and Big Fish.
