You can’t delete Facebook on certain Samsung phones, and people are pissed

Some Samsung phone users can't delete pre-installed Facebook apps

Earlier this week, Bloomberg reported that Samsung customers were "perturbed" to discover that they couldn't delete the Facebook app that was preinstalled on their handsets.

Photographer Nick Winke tried to remove the pre-installed app from his phone - and found he couldn't. You can usually customize your phone, removing and adding apps as you like, though some are immutable; iPhone users couldn't remove certain annoying pre-loaded iPhone apps like Stocks until 2016.

'Can they still track your information, your location, or whatever else they do? "We the consumer should have [a] say in what we want and don't want on our products".

Users can't delete these (except by hacking into their devices), and they can instead only be disabled and hidden.

Reports are making the rounds that some Samsung Galaxy smartphone owners who are fed up with Facebook after privacy blunders that leaked pictures and its history of sharing data without permission can't uninstall the app on their device. A report last week said that many top apps send data to Facebook from Android devices without the user's consent, and that happens even if a person doesn't have a Facebook account.

"Samsung only ship the stub version of Facebook on their phones", she writes in a series of tweets. Even after disabling the app, he was bothered to still have it on his phone.

"Companies should be filing public documents on these deals, and Facebook should turn over public documents that show there is no data collection when the app is disabled". When Twitter's app is loaded on a new phone by default, it wouldn't collect any data unless a user had an account or created a new one, and opened the app and logged in, the company said. Other phone makers and service providers, including LG Electronics Inc., Sony Corp., Verizon Communications Inc. and AT&T Inc., have made similar deals with app makers.

One such app, called the Samsung Mobile, required permission to access 36 types of information about you and your friends on Facebook.

"Very slimy. Been a Samsung customer for 10 years". It can be disabled through from the settings, but if someone doesn't want to use Facebook on the phone, which makes flawless sense given all the data and privacy scandals involving Samsung, the app cannot be removed. "Time to move on". I was recently using the Huawei Mate 20 Pro and the pre-installed Facebook, as well as Instagram apps, refused to work without updating to the latest version.

Samsung claims that such arrangements are made in order to provide "the best" experience to users.
