Wisconsin bus driver rescues child

Video shows bus driver rescuing baby wandering alone near road

She suddenly stopped the bus and dodged traffic to rescue the baby.

Police say the child had been left outside by his mother who may have been suffering from a mental health crisis.

The child was eventually reunited with its father.

A Milwaukee bus driver rescued a barefoot baby boy running alone near a highway, clad only in a onesie in freezing temperatures. Ivic-Drobnjak stops her bus and jumps out, stops traffic and runs toward the crying boy who seems to know she's coming for him; he stops and looks toward her. Ivic then called authorities and the child fell asleep in her arms as they arrived on the scene. "I used to be a teacher and I have children of my own, so I'm so happy I was able to help this sweet, innocent baby", Ivic said. When he saw the police gathered near his home, and noticed his daughter was not there, he ran outside.

Milwaukee police told WITI no charges were filed in the case. "I don't take that kind of compassion for granted", said County Executive Abele.

"Oh my God, I'm shaking", Ivic can be heard saying when she returns to the bus with the girl.

Ivic has been in Milwaukee for 12 years - and an employee of MCTS for five years.

"I have two lovely children and I am a human being and I find the child upset, and if I had the same situation again, I will, of course, again get help". Abele said this was the ninth lost or missing child found by drivers in recent years.
