Donald Trump Says He Will Cancel Trip to Davos if Shutdown Continues

US President Donald Trump said on Thursday he is still scheduled to attend the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland later this month but will not go if the partial shutdown of the federal government continues.

"Because of the Democrats intransigence on Border Security and the great importance of Safety for our Nation, I am respectfully canceling my very important trip to Davos, Switzerland for the World Economic Forum", Trump wrote on Twitter.

In a tweet Friday, Trump offered his "warmest regards and apologies" to the economic forum.

Partisan disagreements over the project, which was the president's signature campaign promise, drove a stalemate that caused the lapse in funding on December 21 for about one-quarter of the government.
