Shooting near Utah mall possibly gang related

"You just see this crowd of people pushing each other, running out, trying to find an exit".

The Salt Lake Tribune newspaper reports officers are searching for the gunman.

Taqueria 27 reported on Twitter that their Fashion Place location will be closed for the rest of the day, but that all of their employees and customers are safe and have left the premises.

Two people are injured, and three suspects are wanted following a shooting at the Fashion Place Mall on Sunday afternoon.

The two victims, a man and a woman both in their 20s, were transported to nearby Intermountain Medical Center in Murray, Bass said.

Bass said there are three suspects who are still at large. The man was in critical condition while the woman was in serious. She said police escorted them out after about 40 minutes.

The mall said in a tweet it was "very saddened by the incident" and grateful for the actions of security and Murray police.

"At this time we are directing all inquiries to the Murray Police Department. The shopping center is now closed".

Police believe the shooting was possibly gang related.

"At this point, there are officers still looking for them", Bass told KSL. Bass said employees and mall patrons would likely be able to return to the mall to retrieve personal items about 4 p.m.

Police officers were seen escorting people out of the mall with their hands in the air, according to video footage published on social media. He said he's never heard of a shooting like this happening in Murray before.

Catrina Ramos said she was with her four children in Claire's getting her daughter's ears pierced when she heard a "pop" sound.

Abbigail Loveridge, an employee at the Attic Salt store, heard gunshots and a fire alarm.

Police on scene confirmed two people were shot.

Murray is 6.6 miles (11 kilometers) south of Salt Lake City.

"We saw cops come in from everywhere", Loren Okuly, who was in the parking lot at the time of the shooting, told KSL.

No other details about the incident were immediately available.
