The teen's lawyer described his actions as the

An Australian teenager was charged and deported from New Zealand after writing "I have a bomb" on an Air New Zealand in-flight messaging system, causing the flight to be cancelled.

The plane was on the runway at Auckland International Airport and about to take off for Sydney at the time when Mr Fifita posted the message because he thought it was "funny".

A 19-year-old man has been charged this morning after being removed from a plane at Auckland Airport last night for making a "threatening comment".

The court heard Fifita was travelling on his own back to Sydney from Tonga, transiting at Auckland.

Fifita was arrested by police and remanded in Mt Eden prison.

New Zealand website Stuff.co.nz reported that the teen, Meke Fifita, faced imprisonment or a fine but was deported after his father paid a $NZ3000 repatriation sum.

"Anyone with half a brain would understand that this is not a amusing thing to do, given the times we live in", Stuff quoted her as saying.

His lawyer, Jane Northwood, says he has pleaded guilty and is utterly remorseful, saying it was a thoughtless, stupid act.

The total cost of Fifita's actions are estimated to be tens of thousands of dollars.
