Jayme Closs' grandfather says family doesn't know suspect Jake Thomas Patterson

Missing 13-year-old Jayme Closs was reunited with her family after being held captive by the man who allegedly murdered her parents

Her discovery led to the arrest of suspect Jake Thomas Patterson, who police said was driving around searching for the girl. He was jailed on suspicion of kidnapping and homicide.

There is no evidence in the early stages of the investigation that links Patterson to the parents or to Jayme, Fitzgerald said.

One aunt, Jennifer Smith, posted on Facebook Saturday that it was great to know Jayme was next to her all night and that it was a "great feeling to have her home".

"I'm lost and I don't know where I am, and I need help", Jayme told Nutter, the woman told the station. (But) he knew what he was doing. We had too much love and support around us for us to give up, ' her aunt said.

The news that Jayme was safe set off joy and relief in her hometown of Barron, population 3,300 and about 60 miles (100 kilometers) from where she was found.

"My legs started to shake". That just came in on our tipline, ' Baron County Sheriff Chris Fitzgerland said.

Jake Thomas Patterson, 21, is charged with abducting Closs and killing her parents.

Jeanne Nutter, who has a cabin in the Gordon area, was walking her dog on an isolated road around 4 p.m. when she saw Jayme out in the cold around dusk.

"She said to us that, 'This person killed my parents and took me, '" Kasinskas said.

He added: 'She did not talk about why or how. "I'd probably faint because I would be so happy to see her", Tuders said.

According to Douglas County Sheriff Tom Dalbec, Gordon police pinpointed and arrested Mr Patterson 11 minutes later thanks to a description of his vehicle that Jayme provided. Fitzgerald hasn't said whether Jayme was sexually assaulted but said Saturday that investigators believe Jake Patterson acted alone.

Fitzgerald says authorities don't know of any social media connection between Patterson and the girl. "Believe me, so are we".

Patterson took such measures as shaving his head beforehand to avoid leaving evidence at the scene, the sheriff said.

Officials say Closs is doing well after having been missing from the Barron area since October 15. Property records show that the cabin belonged to Patterson's father.

Authorities have said they don't believe Patterson crossed paths with Jayme's parents there. Jayme's grandfather Robert Naiberg said in a telephone interview on Saturday that the only thing the family knows for sure is that no one knew Patterson. It was not immediately known whether the unemployed Patterson had an attorney.

Charges are expected Monday.

Despite Erik Patterson's criminal record, few across the township seem to have heard of his family.

About three years ago, Patterson worked at the Jennie-O Turkey Store plant in Barron - where Jayme's parents were employed - and then quit, saying he was moving, company President Steve Lykken said.

Elizabeth Smart says she has followed the case since Closs disappeared in October.

Northwood Superintendent Jean Serum called Patterson a "quiet, good student who had wonderful friends and a supportive class", but said she had no real memories of him. "I think she was doing OK despite the circumstances", she said. "She did not go into detail about how she got out of the house or anything like that".

Detectives pursued thousands of tips, watched dozens of surveillance videos and conducted numerous searches in the effort to find Jayme.

News that Jayme had been found alive ended an all-out search that gripped the country.
