Bumrah rested for Australia ODIs, New Zealand tour

Pace bowler Jasprit Bumrah has been rested for limited-overs global series in Australia and New Zealand after playing a starring role in India's first test series triumph Down Under.

Bumrah bowled 157.1 overs in the four-Test series against Australia and picked 21 wickets at an average of 17.

The BCCI in its statement said "Keeping in mind the workload of the bowler, it was best felt to give him adequate rest ahead of the home series against Australia".

Bumrah will also not feature in the 3-match T20I series against New Zealand, the BCCI announced in a press release on Tuesday. The ICC's post read: "The Australia v India series in 2034 is going to be fire".

India ODI squad for Australia and New Zealand: Virat Kohli (captain), Rohit Sharma (vice-captain), KL Rahul, Shikhar Dhawan, Ambati Rayudu, Dinesh Karthik, Kedar Jadhav, MS Dhoni (wicketkeeper), Hardik Pandya, Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, Ravindra Jadeja, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mohammed Siraj, Khaleel Ahmed, Mohammed Shami.

Mohammed Siraj, yet to make an ODI appearance for India, has replaced Bumrah in the squad while Siddarth Kaul has been called up for the T20s against the Black Caps. In his last first-class match he finished with impressive figures of 3 for 74 and 4 for 71 for Hyderabad against Punjab in the Ranji Trophy. India, who play three matches against Australia and five against New Zealand, could reach 125 points and within one point of England if they are able to win all eight matches while Pakistan need to beat South Africa 5-0 in order to overtake them.

Update: Jasprit Bumrah has been rested for the upcoming ODI series against Australia and India's Tour of New Zealand.

Meanwhile, Siraj has been in top form with the ball in domestic cricket.

Bumrah could return when India host Australia in five ODIs and two T20s in February and March. Among global batsmen, Ross Taylor and Martin Guptill have retained their third and 14th positions after scoring 281 and 153 runs, respectively, while New Zealand captain Kane Williamson has dropped out of the top-10 to 11th position.

India will face Australia in a three-match ODI series which begins on January 12.
